Sector Assessment

A structured process that combines quantitative and qualitative factors to show where a sector stands and where it can grow.

The analysis begins with market fundamentals: size, value, growth dynamics, and sector mobility. Competitiveness is then evaluated with recognized frameworks, including Porter’s Five Forces, SWOT, value chain analysis, cluster analysis, and PESTLE analysis.

We also examine monopoly conditions, tariffs, and trade policies that shape the sector’s market position, and map resources such as raw materials, human capital, skills, and education pipelines to determine capacity for growth and sustainability.

The result is a comprehensive ecosystem map of market structure, regulatory context, workforce readiness, and investment potential. It identifies bottlenecks and opportunities and lays the foundation for targeted development strategies and the needs assessment that follows.

How the assessment runs

  1. Porter’s Five Forces

Understand the structure of the sector: intensity of rivalry, supplier and buyer power, threat of substitutes, and ease of new entry. This sets the baseline for how competitive or concentrated the sector is, and where market power lies.

  2. Market structure, size, and dynamics

Market value, scale, and growth outlook, including compound annual growth rate (CAGR), alongside demand and supply balance, concentration levels, entry and exit conditions, and mobility. This shows whether the sector is expanding, stagnating, or constrained.

  3. Human capital and skills readiness

Labour availability, technical and managerial skills, and the strength of education and training pipelines, to determine whether the sector has the people it needs to grow.

  4. PEST analysis

A scan of the external environment: policy drivers, economic conditions, social trends, and technology adoption that shape competitiveness.

  5. Cluster mapping and ecosystem visualization

All findings come together in one picture: the concentration and linkages of firms, suppliers, institutions, and support organizations, integrated with workforce, resources, policies, and demand. The result is an evidence-based map of strengths, bottlenecks, and opportunities.
